CULTURAL ANTHROPOLOGIST

ANNE HASHIMAWARI

Understanding people.

Uncovering patterns.

Shifting perspectives.

I help organizations understand what people are really experiencing—within their culture and through the products, services and initiatives they create—and turn that insight into clear direction.

APPROACH

Understanding experience
from the inside

I begin with curiosity, not certainty. There is often a gap between what organizations intend to create and what people actually experience. I explore that gap by looking beyond what people say or do in isolation and paying attention to the relationships, assumptions and wider contexts shaping their experiences.

UNDERSTANDING PEOPLE

Listening closely to how employees, users and communities experience and interpret their world—and understanding the contexts shaping those experiences.

UNCOVERING PATTERNS

Connecting individual stories to reveal recurring themes, underlying tensions, shared motivations and relationships that might otherwise remain unseen.

SHIFTING PERSPECTIVES

Turning what emerges into insight that helps people question assumptions, see a situation from another angle and move forward with greater clarity.

WORK

From lived experience to clear direction

I offer three complementary ways of working, tailored to your needs.

02

Facilitation & Sensemaking

I facilitate workshops that help people explore findings, consider different perspectives and build shared understanding, alignment and direction.

01

Qualitative Research & Insight

I design and lead qualitative and participatory research—connecting individual experiences to reveal patterns, tensions and shared motivations, and translating them into clear recommendations.

03

Strategic Thought Partnership

I work alongside leaders and teams when a question is still taking shape—clarifying what matters, challenging assumptions and connecting existing knowledge with perspectives that may be missing.

ABOUT

Anne Hashimawari is a cultural anthropologist whose work brings qualitative research, facilitation and sensemaking to questions involving people, organizations and communities. Over the past seven years, she has worked with founders, agencies and public-sector organizations across organizational, brand and community contexts. Her experience also includes teaching applied anthropology and coaching—both of which have strengthened a practice grounded in careful listening, reflection and dialogue.

Anne holds an MSc in Cultural Anthropology from Utrecht University. Her graduate research in Hawai‘i explored personal, social and environmental wellbeing among social entrepreneurs. That work deepened a question that continues to inform her practice: how do culture, systems and inherited ideas shape what we believe a good life—and meaningful progress—can look like?

People should have a meaningful voice in the decisions, systems and environments that shape their lives.
